1000 WOG Stainless Steel Valves for Water, Oil and Gas Service

"WOG" stands for Water, Oil, Gas, and "1000" is the cold working pressure in psi, roughly 69 bar. A 1000 WOG valve is rated to hold that pressure with non-shock service at ambient temperature, which makes it the everyday workhorse of small bore stainless steel piping. You will find it in factories, workshops, boat engine rooms, car washes, breweries, irrigation systems, compressed air networks, chemical dosing lines and countless OEM machines.

Our 1000 WOG valves are mostly ball valves with threaded, socket weld or tri-clamp ends, and also include check valves, strainers and needle valves with the same rating. The body is CF8M or CF8 cast stainless steel, or forged and bar-machined 304 and 316L for the smaller sizes. Sizes run from 1/4 inch to 4 inch, with the full 1000 WOG rating normally available up to 2 inch and a lower rating on the largest sizes.

Ningbo Keshengli Stainless Steel Valve Co., Ltd. produces this range in volume, which allows us to keep prices low while holding quality at a steady level. We machine threads, balls and stems in-house, pressure test each valve, and pack them in cartons that suit both distributors and OEM assembly lines.

  • Rating: 1000 WOG (about 69 bar), non-shock, at ambient temperature
  • Valve types: 2-piece and 3-piece ball valves, check valves, strainers, needle valves
  • Materials: CF8M, CF8, F304, F316L; 316 or 304 ball and stem
  • Ends: NPT, BSPT, BSPP, socket weld, tri-clamp

Typical customers: plumbing and industrial distributors, boat builders, brewery and food equipment makers, car wash and irrigation suppliers, and general machinery OEMs buy 1000 WOG stainless valves in volume. They value a stable supply of common sizes, repeatable quality and packaging that suits their own warehouse.

Pressure drops as the valve warms up. The 1000 psi value applies at ambient temperature. A PTFE-seated valve rated at 1000 WOG may be limited to a few hundred psi at 150 °C, because the seat softens. We supply a pressure-temperature curve with each quotation, and recommend RPTFE, PEEK or metal seats for hot service.

"Non-shock" matters. WOG ratings assume smooth operation. Water hammer, pump surges and rapid valve closing can produce pressure peaks far above line pressure. Please tell us if your line has such effects, and we will advise on design or valve selection.

1000 WOG Valve Range and One-Stop Supply

Most buyers of 1000 WOG valves are distributors and OEM builders who need a range of sizes, end connections and accessories. We make the range broad enough that one order can cover a full catalogue page, so you receive consistent quality and one set of documents.

Why 1000 WOG is so widely used

  • Wide coverage: the rating suits the majority of water, air and fluid lines up to 2 inch.
  • Compact and light: small body, low torque, easy installation.
  • Economical: cast stainless construction keeps cost low compared with forged high-pressure designs.
  • Flexible: many end connections and handle options make it easy to fit machines and plants.

If your application exceeds 1000 psi, or involves hot steam or shock loads, tell us, and we will propose a higher-rated valve, such as a 2000 WOG, Class 600 or forged design.

Standards for 1000 WOG Valves

WOG ratings are manufacturer ratings, not defined pressure classes like ASME Class 150, so the design and test standards that sit behind them are especially important. We follow the references below and state them in the product data sheet.

AreaStandard Reference
Ball valve design, threaded and socket weldMSS SP-110, ISO 17292, BS 5351
Pipe threadsASME B1.20.1 (NPT), ISO 228 (BSPP), ISO 7 (BSPT)
Socket weld endsASME B16.11
Stainless steel castingsASTM A351 CF8, CF8M, CF3M
Forged bodiesASTM A182 F304, F316L
MarkingMSS SP-25
Pressure testingAPI 598, MSS SP-110, EN 12266-1, ISO 5208
Fire safe designAPI 607, ISO 10497 on selected models
Fugitive emissionISO 15848-1 on selected models
Actuator mountingISO 5211

WOG versus pressure classes: a 1000 WOG valve is not directly comparable to a Class 150 or PN40 valve, because WOG is a cold working pressure for the valve as a whole, including the seat and stem seal, and not a flange rating. Where a standard is needed for a bolted flange connection, we recommend choosing a Class or PN rated valve.

When your specification mentions "1000 WOG", we suggest adding the standard, such as MSS SP-110, and the test requirement, so that all suppliers quote on the same basis.

Reference note: MSS SP-110 is the main design and test reference for threaded and socket weld ball valves, but it leaves some details to the manufacturer. If you need a fixed port size, torque limit or stem design, state it in the inquiry, so that we match it and record it in the data sheet we send.

Certificates and Documents for 1000 WOG Valves

Many buyers of 1000 WOG valves are distributors who resell into water, food, marine and industrial markets. They need documents that can be reused with different end customers, and that stand up to a basic audit. We prepare packages that fit these needs.

  • Material certificate: EN 10204 3.1 for body and trim, with chemical composition and heat number.
  • Pressure test report: shell test and seat test per MSS SP-110 or API 598.
  • Thread inspection report: gauge results for NPT, BSPT or BSPP threads on sampled valves.
  • Fire safe test report: API 607 or ISO 10497 on selected designs.
  • Food contact and drinking water documents: FDA, EU 1935/2004, NSF 61 or WRAS statements for suitable seals, on request.
  • CE marking: for qualifying models where the Pressure Equipment Directive applies.
  • Quality management: ISO 9001 style system and batch records.
  • Certificate of origin and conformity: issued with shipping documents.

Be clear about what you need. Not every 1000 WOG valve has every approval. Tell us the destination country and the application, and we will confirm which models carry the relevant documents.

Sample certificate sets are available before order confirmation, and we can reuse the same format for repeat orders.

Audit tip: keep one reference file per product family, holding the material certificate format, the test report format and the declaration of conformity. When a customer asks for documents, you can issue them quickly from this file, and we can supply updates for each new production lot without rewriting the whole package.

Traceability in High-Volume Valve Production

Valves rated 1000 WOG are produced in large batches, so traceability needs to be systematic and simple, otherwise it breaks down at the packing stage. Our system links each production lot to its material, its machining run, its assembly and its test record, and carries the same lot number onto the carton label.

  1. Material lots: bar and castings are received with certificates, with heat numbers recorded and PMI checked.
  2. Machining lots: threads, balls and stems are machined in labelled batches, with first article inspection at the start of each run.
  3. Seat and seal lots: PTFE and RPTFE seat batches are recorded with supplier lot numbers.
  4. Assembly lots: assembly sheets list the body heat, ball lot, seat lot and operator.
  5. Test records: pressure test results are filed by lot and date.
  6. Carton labels: size, thread, material and lot number are printed on each carton and linked to the packing list.

When a distributor reports a problem with a particular batch, the lot record lets us locate the production records and affected valves quickly, and respond with facts instead of guesses.

Why lot numbers help distributors: if an end customer reports a problem months after sale, the lot number on the carton lets you find the original delivery and send us the information. We can then check the production and test records for that lot, and answer within a short time.

Testing Capability for 1000 WOG Valves

Testing for small bore ball valves is straightforward in principle but demanding in volume. We use dedicated test benches with quick-connect fixtures, so every valve can be tested without trading speed for care.

TestTypical Value or MethodFrequency
Shell testHydrostatic at 1.5 x rating, about 100 bar for 1000 WOG, per MSS SP-110100% of valves
Seat test, liquidHydrostatic at 1.1 x rating, checking for leakage100% of valves
Low-pressure air seat testCompressed air at about 6 bar under water100% of soft-seated valves
Thread inspectionNPT, BSPT and BSPP gaugesFirst article and sampling
Operating torqueTorque tester at the stemSampling
PMIXRF analyser for body, ball and stemIncoming and sampling
Cycle testRepeated open and close, typically 5000 cycles on type test samplesType test or on request
Fire safe testAPI 607 or ISO 10497 on selected designsType test reports on request

Why both liquid and air seat tests? A water test at high pressure shows that the seat holds under load, but a small leak may remain hidden. A low-pressure air test under water reveals tiny leaks that matter in gas and instrument air service. Doing both gives you more confidence than either test alone.

We welcome witnessed testing, and can supply a photo or video of the pressure gauge with the test report.

Cycle life: a quality ball valve should operate smoothly for thousands of cycles. We run cycle tests on type samples and check torque at the start and end, so you can see whether the seat and stem seal remain stable. We can send cycle test data on request with the quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions about 1000 WOG Valves

Q: What does 1000 WOG mean?

It means that the valve is rated for 1000 psi (about 69 bar) of water, oil or gas at ambient temperature, with no pressure shocks. The rating falls as temperature rises.

Q: Is 1000 WOG the same as PN64?

The numbers are close, since 1000 psi is about 69 bar, but PN is a different rating system tied to flange standards. A threaded 1000 WOG valve is not defined by PN.

Q: Can I use a 1000 WOG valve for steam?

Only in light, low-pressure duty and with suitable seats. PTFE seats are limited by temperature, so steam above about 150 °C needs graphite or metal seats. Tell us your steam pressure and we will advise.

Q: Why is the rating lower on large sizes?

Larger valves have longer stems and bigger seats, which experience higher forces at the same pressure. Designers therefore reduce the rating to keep stress within safe limits.

Q: What is the difference between 2-piece and 3-piece ball valves?

A 2-piece valve is lighter and cheaper but must be removed from the line for repair. A 3-piece valve lets you remove the body from the end caps, so seats can be changed in place.

Q: Are 1000 WOG valves suitable for hydraulic oil?

They are suitable for many oil duties within temperature limits, but hydraulic systems with pressure shocks may need a higher rating. Please share your working pressure and peak values.

Q: Can I get a valve with a higher rating in the same size?

Yes. Some 2-piece designs are available at 2000 WOG in small sizes, and forged high-pressure designs go higher.
