ISO 5211 Flange Sizes and Typical Valve Matching
| ISO 5211 Flange | Pitch Circle Diameter (mm) | Bolt Holes | Typical Ball Valve Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| F03 | 36 | 4 x M5 | 1/4 inch |
| F04 | 42 | 4 x M5 | 1/4 to 1/2 inch |
| F05 | 50 | 4 x M6 | 1/2 to 1 inch |
| F07 | 70 | 4 x M8 | 1 to 2 inch |
| F10 | 102 | 4 x M10 | 2 to 4 inch |
| F12 | 125 | 4 x M12 | 4 to 6 inch |
| F14 | 140 | 4 x M16 | 6 inch and larger |
| F16 | 165 | 4 x M20 | Large ball valves |
| F25 | 254 | 8 x M16 | Large butterfly and ball valves |
Matching in the last column is typical only. The correct flange depends on the valve torque, not just on size, because pressure, seat material and medium all change the torque needed. Some flanges are dual-drilled, with two bolt patterns on the same pad, so one valve can accept two actuator sizes.
| Parameter | Typical Specification |
|---|---|
| Standard | ISO 5211 (part-turn actuator attachment) |
| Mounting pad | Machined flat face with spigot or recess, one or two bolt patterns |
| Stem drive | Square drive, double-D, or keyed, according to ISO 5211 |
| Pad material | Same stainless steel as the valve body, or ductile iron for large butterfly valves |
| Stem material | 304, 316 or 17-4PH, with blow-out proof design |
| Stem seal | PTFE packing with adjustable gland, live-loaded on request |
| Valve types | Ball, butterfly, plug, three-way |
| Actuators | Pneumatic double-acting and spring-return, electric, hydraulic, manual gearbox |
| Accessory interface | NAMUR per VDI/VDE 3845 for solenoid valves and limit switch boxes |
Stem extension. If the valve is insulated, or the actuator needs to be placed further from the line for heat or hygiene reasons, a stem extension and a raised pad are available. We state the pad height and the stem length in the drawing, for your actuator supplier.
Automated Valve Packages and Accessories
An actuator alone does not make an automated valve. It needs a correct valve, the right torque margin, signal feedback and sometimes a positioner. We supply complete packages, assembled, adjusted and tested, so you receive a valve that is ready to connect to air or power.
| Product | Size Range | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 5211 ball valve, 2-piece or 3-piece | 1/4 inch to 6 inch | On-off automation, dosing, filling |
| ISO 5211 three-way ball valve | 1/4 inch to 4 inch | Diverting and mixing |
| ISO 5211 wafer and lug butterfly valve | DN40 to DN600 | Water, HVAC, process |
| ISO 5211 sanitary ball valve | 1/2 inch to 4 inch | Food, beverage, pharma |
| Pneumatic actuator, double acting and spring return | F03 to F25 | Fast on-off and fail-safe |
| Electric actuator, on-off and modulating | F03 to F25 | Remote control, building automation |
| Solenoid valve, NAMUR | 1/4 inch ports | Air pilot control of actuators |
| Limit switch box and positioner | Matched to actuator | Position feedback and proportional control |
| Manual gearbox and lever | Matched to valve | Manual override |
Why buy the valve and the actuator together
- Correct torque sizing: we calculate required torque and choose an actuator with a suitable safety margin.
- Factory adjustment: limit stops and travel are set and tested before shipment.
- One warranty point: if something does not work, one supplier handles the issue.
- Less site work: the unit is ready to connect, saving commissioning time.
If you prefer to buy actuators locally, we can supply bare valves with ISO 5211 pads, and provide torque data and drawings for your supplier.
Standards for Actuator Mounting and Automation
ISO 5211 is a mounting standard, so it works alongside valve design standards and actuator standards. It defines the dimensions of the interface only, so the supplier must also supply torque data to select a suitable actuator.
| Area | Standard Reference |
|---|---|
| Actuator attachment to valves | ISO 5211 (flange and stem dimensions) |
| Accessory mounting on actuators | VDI/VDE 3845 (NAMUR) |
| Ball valve design | ISO 17292, API 608, MSS SP-110 |
| Butterfly valve design | API 609, EN 593 |
| Torque and sizing practice | Manufacturer data, with safety factors |
| Pressure testing | API 598, EN 12266-1, ISO 5208 |
| Electric actuator interface | ISO 5210 (multi-turn), ISO 5211 (part-turn) |
| Ingress protection of actuators and boxes | IEC 60529 (IP65, IP67) |
| Explosion protection | ATEX and IECEx for hazardous areas, on request |
| Functional safety | IEC 61508 data, on request for selected actuators |
ISO 5211 does not set torque limits. The standard defines dimensions and bolt sizes, and it gives indicative torque capability for each flange, but the actual rating comes from the actuator and valve design. We therefore supply a torque value for each valve, and recommend an actuator based on it, with a safety factor.
If your project needs a certain type of enclosure protection, explosion protection or safety integrity level, tell us in the inquiry. Those requirements concern the actuator and accessories, and we will source suitable ones.
Reference note: ISO 5211 has been revised over the years, and older valves may follow DIN 3337 flange names, which map closely to the same F sizes. If your actuators are already purchased, send us the actuator data sheet with its flange size and drive, and we will confirm that our valve pad matches it exactly.
Certificates and Documents for Automated Valves
An automated valve involves several suppliers: the valve, the actuator, the solenoid, the switch box and the cabling. Documentation should therefore bring everything together, so your engineers can check the package as one product. We prepare documents with this in mind.
- Material certificate: EN 10204 3.1 for body, ball or disc, stem and pad.
- Pressure test report: shell and seat tests per API 598 or EN 12266-1.
- Torque report: measured operating torque, breakaway and running, with the safety factor used for actuator selection.
- Dimensional drawing: pad dimensions, stem size, pad height and overall height with actuator.
- Actuator documents: data sheet, air supply or power requirements, IP rating, and ATEX or other certificates where relevant.
- Function test report: opening and closing time, limit switch settings, and positioner calibration for modulating valves.
- CE and PED: available for qualifying valves; machinery and low-voltage directives apply to actuators from their makers.
- Quality management: ISO 9001 style system and batch records.
Who certifies what? The valve manufacturer is responsible for the valve and its pressure rating, while the actuator maker is responsible for the actuator and its own approvals. When we supply an assembly, we provide both sets of documents and the combined function test, and state clearly which approval belongs to which component.
Sample documentation packs for automated valves can be sent before you place an order.
Audit tip: keep the torque report, the function test record and the actuator data sheet in one folder for each valve tag. Commissioning engineers often ask for all three at the same time, and when they are filed together, any later troubleshooting can start from a clear record of how the valve performed on the day it was shipped.
Traceability of Valve, Actuator and Accessories
An automated valve has three or four serial numbers: the valve, the actuator, the solenoid and the limit switch or positioner. If a problem occurs, service teams must know exactly which combination was supplied and how it was set up. We therefore record all of them against one assembly number.
- Valve identification: body heat number and valve serial number, linked to material certificates and pressure test report.
- Actuator identification: make, model, serial number, spring set and air pressure rating, recorded in the assembly sheet.
- Accessory identification: solenoid, switch box and positioner models and serial numbers.
- Adjustment record: limit stop settings, travel, speed adjustment and signal calibration.
- Function test record: opening and closing times at the specified air pressure or voltage, with results.
- Labelling: an assembly tag showing valve tag number, actuator model and supply requirements, as specified by the project.
| Item | Record | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Valve | Heat number, serial number, test report | Proof of pressure integrity |
| Actuator | Make, model, serial number | Support and spare parts |
| Accessories | Models and serial numbers | Service and replacement |
| Settings | Limit and speed settings | Faster commissioning |
| Function test | Times and results | Evidence of correct function |
These records are put into a single assembly file, which can be sent in electronic form to your commissioning team before the equipment arrives.
Why assembly records help service: a maintenance engineer who knows the spring set, the air pressure rating and the limit settings of an actuator can fix a problem in minutes instead of hours. We store these details with the valve number, and we can supply them in a spreadsheet for your asset management system.
Torque, Fit and Function Testing
For automated valves, pressure testing is only half of the quality plan. The valve must also turn smoothly with a known torque, the actuator must fit without play, and the whole assembly must open and close within the specified time. We include these checks in our routine procedure.
| Test | Method | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Shell and seat test | Hydrostatic and air tests per API 598 or EN 12266-1 | 100% of valves |
| Pad dimension check | Flange gauge for PCD, spigot, bolt holes and stem end per ISO 5211 | First article and sampling |
| Concentricity check | Dial gauge on stem and pad | Sampling |
| Operating torque | Torque tester, breakaway and running torque | Sampling, 100% for actuated valves |
| Actuator fit test | Trial mounting of the actuator on sample valves | First article and on request |
| Function test | Open and close cycles at specified air pressure or voltage, with timing | 100% of actuated valves |
| Limit switch and positioner check | Signal at open and closed positions, calibration of 4 to 20 mA | 100% of valves with feedback |
| Cycle test | Repeated operation, typically thousands of cycles, on type samples | Type test or on request |
Torque margin. Valve torque changes with time. Seats wear, media leave deposits, and a valve left closed for weeks needs more breakaway torque than a valve operated daily. We therefore choose an actuator with a safety factor, usually 1.3 to 1.5 times the maximum measured torque, and higher for dirty or sticky media.
If you want to see the actuated valve working before shipment, we can send a video, or arrange a visit for witness testing.
Frequently Asked Questions about ISO 5211 Mounting Pad Valves
Q: What does F05 or F07 mean?
They are size codes in ISO 5211. Each code stands for a standard flange with a specific pitch circle diameter and bolt pattern, so the actuator and valve fit without brackets.
Q: Can I mount any actuator on an ISO 5211 valve?
Any actuator with the same ISO 5211 flange and a compatible stem drive can be mounted. You must also check that the actuator torque is sufficient and that the stem drive size matches.
Q: Why do some valves have two bolt patterns?
Dual-drilled pads have two bolt patterns on one flange, for example F05 and F07. This lets the valve accept two actuator sizes, which helps when you are not sure of the required torque.
Q: How do I select an actuator?
Take the valve's maximum torque, multiply by a safety factor of at least 1.3, and choose an actuator with output above that value at the available air pressure or voltage. We can do it for you if you tell us the medium and pressure.
Q: What is the difference between double-acting and spring-return actuators?
Double-acting actuators use air to open and to close. Spring-return actuators use air in one direction and a spring in the other, to give a fail-safe position on air loss.
Q: Do I need a stem extension?
For insulated lines or hot media, a stem extension lets the actuator sit outside the insulation and away from heat. We can supply valves with raised pads or extension stems.
Q: Can you supply valves with actuators assembled and tested?
Yes. We assemble and adjust actuated valves, test them, and ship them as complete units with documents.
MOQ and Pricing for ISO 5211 Valves and Automated Packages
ISO 5211 valves are a normal part of our range, so a pad does not add major cost to a standard valve. Automated packages cost more because of the actuator and accessories, and we quote them in clear line items.
| Item | Typical Terms |
|---|---|
| Bare valve with ISO 5211 pad | Same MOQ as the base valve, 50 to 100 pieces per size |
| Actuated valve, assembled and tested | Small quantities accepted, from 1 piece for project orders |
| Sample order | 1 to 3 pieces per model |
| Custom pad height or special stem end | 100 pieces or more, depending on tooling |
| Pricing basis | EXW, FOB Ningbo, CFR or CIF in USD |
| Quote validity | 30 days, adjusted for stainless steel and actuator price changes |
| Payment | 30% T/T deposit, 70% before shipment; L/C at sight for approved accounts |
What affects the price
- Valve size and material: same drivers as for any stainless valve.
- Actuator type: pneumatic is generally cheaper than electric, and electric modulating is dearer than on-off.
- Accessories: solenoids, switch boxes and positioners add cost.
- Certifications: ATEX, IP67 and SIL rated components cost more.
- Testing: function tests, calibration and documents are included for packages, and quoted separately for special cases.
Choose the actuator brand carefully. We can supply actuators from several makers, or fit the brand that you specify. A brand specified by your end customer may have longer delivery, so please tell us early.
Ordering advice: if you plan to automate only part of your valves, order bare ISO 5211 valves for all positions that might be automated later. The small extra cost of the pad lets you add an actuator without changing the valve, which saves downtime and keeps your options open.
Lead Time, Customisation, Packaging and Trade Terms
Lead time and stock
Bare ISO 5211 valves in popular sizes ship in 15 to 25 days. Actuated packages ship in 25 to 40 days, depending on actuator availability. If you specify a particular actuator brand or special accessories, lead time may be longer.
Customisation
We can customise pad size and drilling, stem end, pad height, stem extension, seat material, actuator brand and model, solenoid voltage, limit switch type, positioner and marking. We can also pre-set the valve for fail-open or fail-closed operation.
Packaging
- Pads and stem ends protected by plastic covers
- Actuated valves packed in foam-lined cartons or wooden cases to avoid damage to the actuator and accessories
- Actuator and valve strapped together, so no load is carried by the accessories
- Tubing and cables secured, and pneumatic ports capped
- Labels showing valve tag, actuator model and supply requirements
Shipping and trade terms
| Term | Details |
|---|---|
| Incoterms | EXW, FOB Ningbo, CFR, CIF, DAP |
| Port | Ningbo-Zhoushan; Shanghai as an alternative |
| Transport | Sea freight, air freight for urgent items, express courier for samples |
| Documents | Invoice, packing list, bill of lading, origin certificate, material and test certificates |
Because actuated valves are higher than bare valves, we plan carton sizes to use container space efficiently, and we send photos of the final assembly with each shipment.
Site handling advice: do not lift an actuated valve by the actuator or the accessories, keep pneumatic ports capped until connection, and check air quality before commissioning. Dry, filtered, lubricated air extends actuator life considerably, and a short commissioning note is included in each shipment on request.
